The preparation relies on carefully dissolving the ground Ogbono seeds in the broth, a process that releases the mucilage, giving the soup its famously thick, drawing (viscous) texture. Generous assorted meats and smoked fish are included, ensuring a rich, complex flavour and an appetising, dark hue.

It is nutty, earthy, and richly flavourful, with a satisfyingly smooth texture that guides your swallow perfectly.
