Our Egusi Ijebu is a masterpiece of traditional simplicity famed for its authentic, chunky texture and rich, undiluted flavour. This serving contains 3 Litre of this magnificent soup.
The preparation begins with ground melon seeds fried directly in a palm oil-pepper base, a crucial step that gives the soup its iconic grainy consistency and vibrant yellow-orange hue. This dense base is then simmered with tender assorted meats and smoked fish, allowing the rich stock to fully meld with the Egusi without the addition of vegetables.
It is rich, nutty, and uniquely delicious. It has a full-bodied flavour that is characteristic of this classic Ijebu style.
Egusi (melon seeds) is a powerhouse of plant-based protein, cholesterol, and healthy unsaturated fats, making this soup highly nourishing. It is an excellent source of Vitamin A and potassium, supporting general well-being and heart health.
